A bump test checks whether a gas detector responds when exposed to a known concentration of test gas. It helps verify that the sensor responds to gas and that alarms and other connected functions activate as expected.
A bump test is different from calibration. Calibration evaluates the accuracy of the detector’s readings against a known concentration of gas and adjusts the instrument when necessary. A detector that fails a bump test may need further troubleshooting, calibration, sensor replacement, or detector replacement rather than automatically requiring immediate replacement.
Gas detectors should be tested and calibrated according to manufacturer instructions and applicable safety requirements.
